U.K. Foreign Policy Advisor Meets with ACEP Leaders
ACEP leaders met last week with Reem Yusuf, a policy advisor for the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Yusuf, based at the British Consulate General in San Francisco, was visiting Fairbanks climate and energy organizations to discuss policy issues and economic prosperity related to communities and renewable energy in Alaska and the U.K. She met with Gwen Holdmann, ACEP director, and Jeremy Kasper, ACEP deputy director and co-director of the Pacific Marine Energy Center.
Alaska and U.K. marine energy-focused connections were discussed. Of particular interest are environmental studies on the potential impacts of in-river turbines and wave energy technology on marine and aquatic life. PMEC researchers at UAF are leaders in the environmental impacts of marine energy.
PMEC formalized its relationship with the U.K.-based European Marine Energy Center through a memorandum of understanding several years ago, and last week's meeting may lead to further collaborations.
