  • Igiugig Plans New Biomass Heating System

The Lake and Peninsula Borough is seeking engineering design services to produce bid-ready plans for the installation of an appropriately sized Garn wood-fired boiler system to serve the Igiugig school and teacher housing in Igiugig, Alaska.

The school is approximately 5,620 square feet, and the teacher housing is approximately 1,100 square feet.

Igiugig is located on the Kvichak River at the mouth of Lake Iliamna.  In 2019, the community installed the first in-river hydrokinetic turbine designed and installed by Ocean Renewable Power Co. The community also has wind turbines that help power a greenhouse.
